GEXSI launches www.jatropha-platform.org. The Jatropha Platform
aims to provide information, networking and services for Jatropha
oil producers, research institutions, non-governmental organizations,
public authorities and other parties interested or engaged in the
field. Latest release is the first study on the current status of
over 240 Jatropha projects worldwide.

GEXSI is a founding member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Jatropha
Biofuels which has been initiated by BioX under the auspices of
the Dutch government. We aim to provide valuable input based on
our own jatropha projects to develop first class standards on pro-poor
+ pro-environment biofuel investments in semi-arid regions worldwide.

GEXSI has conducted the first industrial oil milling test of jatropha
mahafaliensis seeds. The seeds contain approximately 30% oil and
can be used as a substitute for diesel. GEXSI has provided 12 tons
of seeds from Madagascar where we currently develop a major biofuel
project.

The GEXSI biofuel team has consulted various international entities
in preparing and setting-up commercially driven jatropha biofuel
projects in East Africa. The latest projects GEXSI has provided
expertise, are located in East and Southern Africa: in Zambia, Tanzania,
and Mozambique.

The first 500,000 jatropha trees have been planted in Analavory.
Jointly with a local partner, GEXSI implements a 300 ha community-
based biofuel project which will form the basis for further biofuel
projects in Madagascar and beyond. A second project site already
has been identified in Southern Madagascar.

GEXSI has closed an investment deal with a UK investor providing
a soft loan to a company located in Quito, Ecuador. The company
will produce high-quality wooden parquet floor in partnership with
both the indigenous population and forestry protection agencies.
The company promotes sustainable use of virgin rainforest areas
by establishing long-term relationships with local communities while
preparing the FSC certification of the wood production.

The Global Exchange for Social Investment has given itself a dual
structure: a not-for-profit organization (www.gexsi.org) and GEXSI
LLP as a commercial service provides (www.gexsi.com). With this
dual structure, GEXSI can address all challenges in assisting social
entrepreneurs to move from aid to market, i.e. to establish financially
viable businesses which provide jobs and basic goods and services
in low-income regions worldwide.
